CFGU Internship

The Center for Global Understanding (CFGU)

The Center for Global Understanding (CFGU) is a non-profit organization that bridges between different cultures and religions. Its focuses on cultivating the next generation of American leaders through their Washington D.C. Internship program for underrepresented minorities. The internships serve hundreds of colleges and universities in the U.S. and other countries by providing selected students challenging opportunities to work and learn in Washington, D.C. for academic credit.

OCIF partners with the center to co-sponsor two students to be part of this initiative. The goal is to develop a cadre of next generation American Muslims with expertise in policy and decision-making in Washington, D.C. to promote and support the interests of the American Muslim community.

Free Summer Camp at CSULB

There is a FREE Summer CAMP at CSULB (Construction Engineering Department) for high school students (11 & 12 grades). Attached is the free camp information. The camp provides field-trips, food, educational activities,etc.It is organized and supervised by CSULB professors. If interested please fill out this form.

Scholarships for Muslim Graduates

The Muslim Graduation Committee is holding its 10th Annual Scholarship & Graduation Ceremony for ALL Muslim graduates in Los Angeles County, Orange County, and the Inland Empire. This event is free of charge and is open to all graduate levels (High School, College & Graduate Level). We will be offering over $18,500 dollars in scholarships to the graduates this year. Intrafaith Dialogue

OCIF is having a two week class on Monday, May 21st and 28th called "Shia-Sunni Intrafaith Dialogue" between Sheikh Yassir Fazaga and Sayed Moustafa Al-Qazwini from IECOC. The class will be held between Maghrib and Ishaa prayer . The first class will be held on May 21st at OCIF, 23581 Madero, Ste 101, Mission Viejo, CA, 92691, tel: (949) 595-0480 after Maghrib prayer. The second class on May 28th will be held at IECOC, 3194-B Airport Loop Drive,Costa Mesa, CA 92626,tel: (714) 432-0060 after Maghrib prayer.

Canned Food Drive

We are continuing with our canned food drive. We were notified that the food banks are empty. Please bring with you one canned food item with you to Jumuah prayer this Friday! We will be collecting the non-perishable food items in the designated red barrels inside the masjid.

Big Sunday Success!

This year's Big Sunday event was a huge success. Thank you to everyone who volunteered, and to those who came out in support of our events. Your contributions allowed us to raise enough money to make 120 hygiene kits for the homeless.
Our youth also joined Tapestry Church in making flower pots for seniors. The youth had a great experience working with our neighbors to help the less fortunate in this amazing event for Big Sunday.

Muslim Spain by Dr. Mariam Saada

Dr. Mariam Saada will be presenting a special lecture at OCIF on Muslim Spain on Friday, May 18th from 8:00pm-9:30pm.

Volleyball Tournament

Mark your calendars! There will be a Volleyball Tournament between different masajid on Sunday, June 17. The deadline to register is Thursday, May 17. There will be a tryout and team selection for the OCIF team on May 20 at 9:00am at Alicia Park across from the masjid. To register please fill out this form. Are you stressed? Do you have some issues and need to talk to someone? Please schedule a counseling session with Sh. Yassir on Mondays and Thursdays. You can schedule an appointment by calling OCIF at (949) 595-0480.

Weekend School: Early Registration

Registration is now open for the 2012-2013 Weekend School. To save a spot for your child, you will need to pay $25 and fill out the application form. We accept children from the ages 4 to 15. Our program covers Islamic Studies, Arabic Language, and Quran. School hours are from 9:20am-1:30pm every Saturday OR Sunday.

Summer Camp

Pillars Academy will be offering a six week Islamic Summer Camp beginning June 25-August 2 from 9:30-2:30 for ages 4-14. There will also be a toddler program available for ages 18 months-3 years old. This will be a fun-filled camp wih many field trips like: Knott's Berry Farm, Discovery Cube, Bowling, Scooter's Jungle, and the Ocean Institute. There will also be many special presentations and activities for the campers! The cost of the camp, including field trips, is $690! We also have the option to enroll weekly for $120. Sisters Class: Sciences of the Quran

Sh. Yassir will be hosting a class for women in english starting Wednesday, April 25 at 11:00a.m. titled "Sciences of the Quran."

Recycle Drive

Help Pillars Academy facilitate recycling within our community. Allah (SWT) has mentioned in several places in the Quran about taking care of the Earth, its creatures, and not wasting. We would like to teach our students and our community how to be proactive in protecting the Earth and its resources by revamping our recycling program. Please bring your plastic bottles and aluminum cans to the school every Friday morning. We will separate them for you.
